installing Duroc

Hi,

Is it still considered best work practice when installing the 1st sheet of Duroc or similar product to leave about 1/8 to 3/16" gap above the tub or shower pan? This to reduce the capillary action. I was going to fill the gap with a good grade of silicon sealer.
Thanks for any replies.
