How to repair shower tile pulling away from wall?

it's hard to tell from the picture, but it doesn't look like there is a liner there. if there is it doesn't go all the way over the curb.

How to repair shower tile pulling away from wall?

I'm not sure of the material behind the tile. I think that it is the blueboard that is used in wet areas???

There is a gap between the board areas(you can kind of see in the pictures). I didn't know if that was an issue that needs to filled in prior to putting the tile back on? I do think that the pan is grey. I think that it was a hand constructed liner.

What do you think? Is there more that I need to do pror to putting the tile back on to help prevent this from occuring again? Thanks!!

How to repair shower tile pulling away from wall?

Two questions---
what is the backer made of-??? is it cement ? Cement board? Gypsum?

Is the stuff on the back of the tile a cement based thinset or a soft mastic?

What Mike asked...... I was about to ask the same.

You thought the backer was blue-board. If so, that's a big problem. You also need a waterproofing membrane over the correct backer. Backer boards are nailed or screwed in place, that kinda makes holes in the shower pan. That's wrong.

Kenny, you need to tell us what you see, those pics aren't so good.

Whatever it is, it looks moldy to me. There is some black residue on the tile. Also the tile doesn't have much adhesive on it.

Duct tape that tile on and sell the house......jk......I think you might be in for a tear out of at least the floor and see what you find.

I don't know if these new pictures help but I have attached some new ones.

Upon a closer look, its not blue board. It feels like cement board< although I am not sure what that feels like. When I put my fingernail into the boar. there is a slight give to the material. It is not gypsum.
I did scrape off a substantial abount of material off the back of the tile. I believe that the material on the back of the tile is thinset.

Looks like cement board with Aqua Guard on it- its blue/green BUT looks like whatever the curb is made out of has shifted enough to tear thru the water barrier and water got behind it. Bet the curb is wood or something. Also if that is cement board they should have taped and mudded the seam- that space shouldn't even be there. Hate to say it but you need to tear more into it.
