How do lay the tiles at the edges of the room....

I am almost finished one room laying ceramic tiles. I am about to put in the edge ones that I have had to cut.

I know this sounds like a really stupid question but how do I put the thinset in such a small area? My trowel will not fit in order to create the ridges.

Would I put the thinset on the back of the tile? Is that the way it is done?

Thanks

Yes, backbutter the tiles. After you wet the substrate.

You would be more disappointed if you had seen the different manoeuvres
I was doing in order to create those ridges.........

I actually wipe the substrate as I go along with a damp cloth, just to pick up any dust, etc.

Bud, I am getting better at this tiling thing......They are looking better than the first ones that I laid. I am getting less thinset squeezing out, and I love not using those spacers.

Are tiles no exactly all the same size, or is it just my tiles? Sometimes I notice that some are off about 1/16th of an inch.

Nope! Generally all tiles are not the same size unless they are "rectified tiles" but I ain't-a gonn-a get into that right now. It's not you.

Pain in the butt, huh?
