Default how to best remove a mexican terra cotta tile floor?

It was layed on a concrete slab. I know it's a sin to remove it... but there are a number of busted tiles in our bathroom... we are going to lay down ditra and porcelain instead. We obviously want to do as little damage to the slab as possible. Would a demo hammer be too rough on the slab?

thanks for your help!
