Help matching grout color...

Hey all, I am trying to finish up a small tile 'repair job in my kitchen. I had to pull up and re-lay about 30 or 40 sq. feet of tile in my kitchen. Problem is that the original tile was laid a very long time ago, thus the grout color is now darker than it was. I am trying to re-grout with custom building products sanded grout. Obviously there is not a perfect match as far as grout goes. What is the best and cheapest way to stain or dye the new grout to match the old. Any input is appreciated.

did you take some grout samples to a good tile store? It would be interesting to see what some others recommend.I just went through this for a very small project, but I was not worried about it being perfect. I probably should have posted here first.

Thanks bdog, but like an idiot I forgot to save a piece of the old grout when I pulled it up. However, the remainder of the floor still has the old grout, so I may have to pull up an extra little piece.

You probably will never get a good match. Even with new grout, there is variation between containers with the same color. You have two choices: 1) remove all the grout and and re-grout the floor. 2) Use a grout color sealer, like this one (click here). I have used it and it is much more cost-effective and just as permanent as replacing the grout.
