Granite Tile Fireplace

Trying to tackle my fireplace surround. A few questions I am hoping the experts can help.

1. Do I need to use grout for granite tile?
2. When I demoed the current fireplace, there was sheetrock. I now need to rebuild it. Is sheetrock ok or should I use a durarock or something like that?
3. Any special advice for a first time granite tile job?

Thanks!
