gap behind countertop

I am going to put a tile backsplash in my kitchen. There is a sizeable gap between the countertop and wall. How do I repair this before I put my tile up?

Define "sizeable gap." Are you talking 1/8th inch? 1 inch? And is it the same width gap the entire length of the countertop, or is it bigger at one end?

Keep in mind that your backsplash tile will at least partially close that gap.
