Drilling into porcelain tile not working. Can I just glue?

I've wasted ~$40 on bits and it's just not working. I have a shower pole that I need on the tile and I'm thinking of just glueing it instead. Thoughts? Any other method to get this thing attached?

Did you waste $40 on many bits........ or did you buy one GOOD bit to start with?

With tile, this is the main thing.

What Willie said. Any quality masonry bit should work fine. Heck, if it's ceramic tile and not porcelain, even a cheap bit should do the job since ceramic is softer. It took me less than 20 minutes to mount the curtain rod in my tile shower. Perhaps you don't have enough drill?

Two bits, I got a $20 one at first but it was bad so I spent $20 on another. It works but it's very very slow. I have six holes to drill and after 15 minutes I'm not even done one.

Can you post some pictures of the drill bits and drill motor you are using? It should not take 15 min to do all 6 holes.

You are making sure to keep the site flooded with water, right? About 700 to 800 rpm, light pressure.

Well, it's a wall so it's hard to flood it. I keep spraying it with water though.

If you have some plumbers putty, stick it to the wall where you are drilling and form a reservoir for water.

You need a hammer drill, a regular drill motor will just spin and glaze the tile.

Really? I did my shower rod with a regular battery screw gun.

I'll only buy Bosch masonry bits.

I've also had good experience (on glazed tile) with "glass bits"
Should NOT need a hammerdrill. Look for them LINK

A hammer drill will crack the tile." Glass and tile" bits won't work on porcelain tiles. Go to the tile dept. at HD they have a diamond bit made by Brutus. I just used it last week on porcelain tile, I know it works. Cost $21.

Hammer drills do work on porcelain tile----and seldom crack the tile---I've never cracked a tile when using a Bosch bit in a hammer drill---I may be lucky---but last fall I supervised a crew that installed partitions in 32 commercial bath rooms--hundreds of holes---not one broken tile.

I also use diamond coring bits for mounting things to tile---they work well--keep the bits wet---

I bought a cheapish set of masonry bits and had the exact same problem as the OP the first time around installing some Kohler "frameless" shower doors from a big box store. It literally took me 15 mins to drill a hole.

Come to find out I was using the wrong bit (shocker). I bought a small set specifically for cutting tile and the bits look like the tip of an arrow. I've used this set a few times and it cuts through the tile like you'd expect, and only take a minute at most per hole. It sounds like you're just using the wrong bit like I did. Don't use regular masonry bits.

This is what you want: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bosch-Gla...3#BVRRWidgetID
