Do I need to shim with tub surround?

when placing the tile against the tub (I'd like to start there once I snap a line and forget the batten), do I place a 1/8 inch shim under the tile. using 12 x 12. Also I'm setting the back of the tub against the long wall first, how close do I get to the actual wall at the corners.

The joint at the corner should be the same spacing of the joints everywhere else. But caulk this joint and along the tub edge, do not use grout.
