do i need to seal grout?

hi,

i've just completed a custom shower stall.
i have glazed ceramic on floor and wall with hydroment sanded grout - joints about 3/16".

the grout has been done for two days.
i have used "ceramaseal" siliconized caulk in all intersections, and that has also now cured for two days.
do i need to seal the grout? or is the shower ready for use?
if i need to seal, what kind of product do you recommend, and how long after sealing until i can let the water fly?

thanks a lot.

My contractor recommended DuPont grout sealer. Anyone use this? Is it a good product?

Regular cementitious grouts should always be sealed. There are many brands available, which makes it impossible to really know how good they are except according to the price. As an example the sealer shown in post #2 is a cheap sealer, while the one in a green bottle available at the same store is supposedly better since it costs much more.

Do you have one particular brand/type of sealer you recommend?

chrisn: FYI: "TileLab" grout sealer is to grout sealing what Behr paint is to painting. OK if you don't know better, but not what most tilers use. It, like Behr paint, is marketed to meet a price point, not quality of silicone used.
