Diagonal porcelain tile cut with a skil saw.

I need to cut several 18" porcelain tiles in half diagonally. If I use a skil saw, should I start the cut by easing into a corner, or should I start the cut by easing the saw down somewhere along the line in the middle? Is there a performance benefit if I use a dry diamond blade versus a wet blade? Thanks much.

I hope your kidding, that's the last type saw I would use for this job.
1, bridge style saw.
2, Cheap to buy table saw type tile saw.
3, 4-1/2" right angle grinder with a diamond blade.
All would be far better then a ciruler saw.

Diagonal porcelain tile cut with a skil saw.

Thanks for the advice. This is a small bathroom project, so didn't want to spend too much on a specialized tile table saw that I may never use again. I have found that to cut an 18 inch tile diagonally requires a much larger tile table saw. My two favorite local tool rental companies don't have a wet table saw that would work.

My expectation would be that I'd build a jig that I'd run my skil saw between. The jig would keep the saw from moving left or right as I moved down the line. I'm worried about chipping the tile as I push the saw through through that first corner.

I'll look into your other suggestions.

Thanks again.

No matter which way you cut it your going to need a diamond blade.

The heat from a dry cut will break your tile---

When I did my bathroom in porcelain tile, the store I bought the tile from also did installation. I worked out with them that they would do the tricky cuts, diagonals and cut outs for outlet boxes etc. I marked the cuts with a sharpie on the tile and dropped off the tiles at their shop and picked up the cut tiles later. You might have a shop do the difficult cuts for you.

small project, mainly for you? Use a grinder with a wet blade for the CLEANEST look, diamond does just as well. mark out your cuts, get a straight edge run it along your line and secure it on(use a clamp, or hold it depends on your skills) and run your grinder flush with the straight edge and continue back and forth along the straight edge until the cut is finished.
