crown moulding in a shower stall?

I'm doing a new bathroom, with 9' ceilings. I'm planning on running crown moulding around the top, and this ideally will extend over the shower stall. the stall glass/door etc will not go all the way to the top, but I'm planning on having the tile go all the way up. how do i think about the crown? I've seen exa, plea where the crown sits right on top of the tile? any suggestions would be welcome! thx jp

Won't the tile stand proud of the wall? Are you going to notch the crown or what is your plan to deal with the difference in thickness?

I put crown up in our bathroom to cover the seam around the "tin" ceiling. I used the foam stuff and got the square corner things so that I only had to do straight cuts. It looks good and really finishes the room nicely.

your absolutely right about the tile standing proud -- one of my concerns! and notching the crown would look bad I think. I don't want to stop the tile significantly below the ceiling with a gap of wall as I think that would look a bit cheap, but I could stop the tile just below the crown so they abut or the crown sits on top of it. not really sure whats the best.

You can step the crown out as you go from the wall to the tile---that will be a thin bit of miter--but you can do it---

You could also add a wood strip behind the crown that is the same thickness as the tile---

That's the way to do it...shim the crown molding out 1/4" so as not to lose the appearance of the crown molding profile. I use standard lattice material for the shims top and bottom of the molding.

You could step it out like Mike said, like we did in our kitchen. One thing I would do is put some wood backing above the tile to fasten the molding to.
