Cement board for a tile shower

We have our vinyl liner down and have put the bottom half of our cement board down. We only left 1/4 between the bottom liner and the board will this be okay or do we need to take it down and cut it? We are having to build our bed up more because of the drain.

did you do a preslope under the liner? did you put blocking between the studs to support the liner? did you install a vapor barrier behind the cement board or do you plan to waterproof over the cement board?

Typically the rock goes in before the final deck mud is packed in---this holds the bottom of the rock in place---

I'm including a link to building a hand packed shower base----see how this compares to your work--
Building a shower pan with pre-sloped mortar bed, liner and curb.
