Bad tile job

Hi all, i have ceramic tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms. The grout is coming apart all over the place. Is this because he did not put plywood down on top of the hardwood before setting the tile? I dont know if that is the case, so i wanted to ask you guys what would cause this to happen. Thanks for your time.

That's typical failure caused by loose tiles---Lift an air vent--I'll bet the tile is set over plywood--

tile must(IMO) be installed over a cement backer or the Ditra type membrane.

Post your floor joist length--spacing--and size--one of us will check the span--However,those tiles are loose, not cracked----installation error-----Mike---

The floor joists are 2 by 12, 16 on center, with supports every 6 feet.

In a word!

YUP!

You cannot install any ceramic tile directly to hardwood or slat-wood substrates. But I guess you now know that!
