Backsplash....where to stop it

I'm going to be helping a friend put up a backsplash soon. The end of her counter doesn't line up with the end of the cabinet and there is a light switch also. Any suggestions on where to stop the backsplash would be helpful

That light switch throws everything off. If it's not practical to relocate it, which it probably isn't, depending on the style of tile, I would end it an inch or 2 before you reach the switch. Do some dry runs of taping some of the tile up and see what looks natural.

Though I'm not usually a fan of painted light switch covers, if they still have the wall paint, maybe paint the cover too so it pops out less visually. Not sure if that would look tacky or not.

The electrician wasn't paying attention to the plans. The switch should have been installed either on the right side of the stud, or asked for another stud be installed. But that takes time and the project manager should have caught that.

You can still move it to the right and then patch the old hole.

The tiles should end in line with the countertop and if that takes you past the uppers, fine. Continue with full tiles up past the uppers, cap with bullnose. Do not cut the tiles even with the bottom of the upper cabinets. You do that and everyone will know it wasn't done by a pro. IMO.
