backsplash application
 
Is it ok when installing kitchen backsplash tile-ceramic- to painted drywall to use the adhesive right to the clean drywall or is a backer board required?
Also is thinset always better or can i use the premixed adhesive?

You will be fine going over a painted drywall surface---be sure it is clean and if it's glossy paint --scuff sand it --

Premixed mastic is fine for a back splash----as long as the tiles are not to large--mastic needs air to dry--

There is no advantage to using a backer board --thinset is fine if you wish--once again,no big advantage over mastic except for cost---
