Any tips for grouting textured tile?

Just laid my slate-look porcelain tile this weekend, and grouted one area tonight so we can get appliances back in place. A major issue we ran into was the grout (dark gray, looks black when wet) getting into all the small pits all around the edges of the textured tiles. Are there any tips or tricks for making grouting these sorts of tiles easier?

I always see how-to's on grouting smooth glazed wall tile or smooth floor tile, but this textured stuff is just a nightmare! We only grouted about 70 s.f. out of 206 s.f. and I'm dreading the rest. Wife was like "can we just not grout it?" and I was like uhhh no that would look awful But the tiles themselves just look sooo good before grouting, and after they seem to look kinda blahhh.

Not an expert here, but I would think about using a grout bag. Sorta like an cake decorating/icing bag.

You can get an acrylic modified grout in a caulking tube if you are having an issue.. but really it shouldn't be an issue if you know the proper technique for grouting. I am guessing that you are getting it too soft/wet or too dry and then you will have more stay in the areas that you don't want it. Also make sure that you clean the water regularly.

I have found that not waiting too long before starting to clean helps get the grout out of the pits around the edges of the tile. It's still more work than grouting a smooth tile, but it's getting easier the more I do it.
