1/4" cement board "does not exist"!

I want to use 1/4" cement board on top of 3/4 ply for tiling my countertop. Believe it or not only one of the 3 hardware stores in my town carries cement board. Home Hardware does not, North American Lumber does not, and McDiarmid Lumber carries USG Durock, BUT only carries 1/2 and 5/8.

There computers do not list 1/4" and say that they do not believe it is out there.

Can anyone clairify that it indeed does and if so provide a link or something so I can take it in and give them the information?

Frustrating to say the least. I do not want to drive 2hr to the city for 3 sheets of cement board.

Thanks!

...durock comes in 5/16", 1/2" and 5/8". Says so on their site. Google durock. Hardi has a 1/4". Home depot or lowes should have something you can use.

Both Haridibacker and Wonderboard come in 1/4" and 1/2" sheets, both of which are 3x5

I know for sure HD carries them; not sure about the other stores.

Why the heck? What's the reason? If you're thinking it's better to have all one piece, I don't agree. It's hard to handle and more likely to get damaged and weakened in large size. I've only seen 4x8 in stock one time, it was 1/2". I got shivers and then sweats, had to walk away. The taped seams will be stronger than the rest of the board.
