vessel tub platform

hey guys.
this is my first post!
redoing my master bath and freestanding tub just arrived. it will sit on an 8" high platform. i was wondering if anyone would know how deep a comfortable step depth should be from the tub edge? dont want it to be awkward to step into it. under tub will be walnut or teak slats thx!
