tile over wood

Hi all,

Am I able to nail metal lath to the inside of a door frame, then use a thin set mortar, then tile or do I need to put a cement backer board over the 2x4 wood frame?

The image is showing the framed entrance to the shower (shower head in background).

Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

After doing a little bit more research i decided to cover the wood (wood with Redgard) with backer board before I tile, My plan is to cover the new backer board with Redgard before moving on.

Any reason the ceiling was not finished before all the other stuff went in?

Not particularly, should I have finished the ceiling first for some reason?

Ceiling are always done before anything else.
Whatever is applyed to the walls, be it sheetrock, tile board ECT. help hold the ceiling panels in place.
