Sterling shower base

I just purchased a Sterling shower base that is made for the surround shower walls. My question is can I use it as a shower pan and then tile around the shower pan and up for the walls?

I called the Kohler company and the lady I spoke with said that that model was ok to be using it as a shower pan and to tile up the walls instead of having the complete ensemble. If you do a google search you may be able to see the product under the tab bath and showers.
