Specific question about repainting kitchen/bathroom cabinets

Hi all,

We are moving in to our first house soon, and while the kitchen and bathroom cabinets are in great shape, the colors inspire nightmares.

I've read countless tutorials and watched many videos on how to repaint cabinets and cabinet doors. I feel comfortable at least starting with the small guest bathroom and then moving to the kitchen if things go well.

The question I have is, when putting the doors back on, do I need to fill the hinge holes with wood putty and redrill it so that the screws are in there nice and tight? Or do I need to fill, sand, prime, and paint the old holes and redrill the hinges in a slightly different position on both the boxes and the doors?

Or is it fine to just put them right back in the same place without doing anything to ensure it will be nice and tight when reattach?

Thanks so much for any feedback.

TB

Yes, it should be. If not, then something was probably wrong to begin with. Don't overtighten and strip, obviously. If the previous person did strip, well then they'd probably be loose already. If you do find a need to tighten a hole, the easiest thing to do is snap off a toothpick or something like that in the hole, and then screw into that.

Great! Thanks for the advice. We will just put them straight back in and if any problems, we will try the toothpick method!
