Shower/tub surround wall falling down?? possible mold? HELP!

We just bought a house and the shower/tub surround is falling down on the back (the longest) wall. I am pretty sure it is a 3 piece wall system. I have no clue about any of this! I have a pic of the bathroom...its not the best pic but its all I have right now. ANY ADVICE is MUCH appreciated!!! I don't know if we should attempt to fix it and I have no clue how to do that! OR should we tear it all down to check for MOLD?!! thanks!!!

What is the surround made of?

If it's leaking and shows signs of coming loose from the wall--You need to remove it and see what's going on.

It might be possible to remove and reinstall--but don't count on that--depending on the material--
it might break during the removal ---

More info needed--

Shower/tub surround wall falling down?? possible mold? HELP!

We got to go to the house today so I was able to get a picture of the gap off the wall. I think the shower walls are made of fiberglass. I am not sure if much water could have made its way into the gap from the positioning of the shower head... but it still kinda makes me nervous.

Would re-gluing the wall and fixing the gap end the mold problem IF it were to exist where it can't be seen?

Thanks!

That could easily be re glued---use PL premium .

A couple of 1x2s or 2x2s wedged to the opposite wall will hold thw sheet tight while the glue driees--not a big job at all---

Shower/tub surround wall falling down?? possible mold? HELP!

Great! Thanks! Now what about.... the shower walls. can the shower walls be painted? I am not a huge fan of the design... I am wondering if we can paint them or even cut a 5 inch stripe horizontally out of the walls and tile in them to make them look more custom. I attached an example pic below of the stripe across the walls. We would then also tile up to the ceiling above the walls.

what are your thoughts?! :D

If you don't like the look, rip them down and start over. If they are really fiberglass, as you suggested, you can't do much with them besides that.

As he said, if you want to do it properly then time to start over. Usually those acrylic / glass fibre tub/shower surrounds come out pretty easily if you have the right tools and know what you're doing.
