sealing/enhancing tumbled travertine
I am installing tumbled travertine in the kitchen as a backsplash. Using 4x4 tiles on diamonds. Question is, do you need to put the enhancer on the tile before mounting or can we do it after it is up, but before grouting?

Another thing...
since i do not want to get grout in all if the imperfections in the tile to keep it more natural looking, is there a trick of the trade to fill in the grout lines efficiently without using a trowel?

i suppose you can do it before mounting, but before grouting. i pre-stain and varnish most of my trim work, just makes it easier.
whatever is easiest for you, i suppose.
some people color enhance/seal twice...

You can use a grout release prior to grouting:
For grout, you can use an epoxy based grout, like SpectraLOCK:
When used over a tumbled travertine, it will add a light sheen to the tile. This backsplash is travertine with SpectraLOCK. You may notice it looks a tad bit darker than expected. This is due to the epoxy in the grout. Some like the transformation, some don't. I personally like it as standard tumbled travertine doesn't have much of a tone to it. The epoxy-effect is similar to wetting the tile.
