Repair shower stall
1970's house built on slab (Florida), have found water damage under carpeting on adjacent room to master bath shower. Started removing old cracked grout and the wall tile that meets the floor tile had to be removed due to damage. Found at the bottom where wall meets floor what looks like mucky wet cement. Is this the pan deteriorating or from the back board? The back board looks like concrete and somewhat rusty looking. I have repaired a shower before above the tub in a newer home but this is new to me . Can I remove the wet stuff and let the shower dry out before repairing or do I have to repair the pan also?
Sounds like the wet mucky stuff is deteriorating backer/wall board or mastic from the tile.
iIf you are getting water between the Base and the Wall. the whole install was probably not done correctly.
There should be a rubber/ PVC liner under the Base that extends up the wall about 6" above the Base to prevent water from getting out of the shower.
If you post a picture it would help to see what you have.
