putting tile in bathtub wall
im removing a fiberglasstub surround and want to a regular tub and tile the wall of tub.can i use greenboard down part of the wall and then butt 1/2 inch backerboard up to the greenboard for just the area im tiling. im not going to put tile up to the ceiling just at the height were the old surround came out. and if i can do that how do i fill the gap between the to boards?

First of all, greenboard is an obsolete material. Doesn't do anything better than regular drywall in a bathroom.
But to answer your question, yes you can use wallboard and then meet up with the 1/2" cement board. You'd tape and drywall compound the seam just like any other wall joint.
