Pumbers putty or silicone

I'm installing an Oatey white PVC drain into a preformed American Standard shower base...acrylic. I just noticed that the Oatey plumbers putty says not to use it on plastic...

Can I assume that using it in this above application is a no-go. And, that I should be using silicone calk.

Just wondering. Better to ask here than find out later.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Pumbers putty or silicone

I may have just answersed my own question...at one of the big box stores. The clerk in the plumbing section said that the reason that Oatey warned against using the plumbers putty that I had on plastic, as well as other products was because it stains...and that they make another version that's safe for plastics.

So, that's where I am at the moment. If anyone cares to comment, I'm open for suggestions and knowledge updating...lol.

He's is right---there is an oilless version that is used with natural stone---

I've never noticed plastic staining with the conventional putty--
