Pull Up Newly Set Tile?

Need some help from the experienced folks out there. Thanks.

I used mastic on 12 inch granite tile over an existing formica counter. While the instructions said to expect extended drying times, it has been two weeks and it isn't dry yet.

Don't know if we should wait for more time to dry, try to weaken the bond that has happened around the edge, or break out the stone and start over. If we could save and re-use the stone that would be best as we already paid to have the outside edge polished.

Thanks for all you experience and advice.

If it isn't dry, the tile should come up firly easily. Use a LONG putty knife and work it under as far as it will go, and gently pry up.

Then scrape off that junk. Never use mastic where there will be water, always use thinset.

Pull Up Newly Set Tile?

It is dry around the edges, about the first inch and a half. That edge stripe has returned to the normal color, while the interior of the tile is darke like the entire tile was when initially set.

Any ideas on how to soften the dried edge so I can get the tile up unbroken?

Thanks.

This is only on a dry island, so very limited water contact.
