Poly or Redgard for shower vapor barrier ?

I am redoing a small shower with ceramic tile and a Noble brand built in niche for shampoo and soap, and am undecided on what type of waterproofing to use under the cementboard. What is the best method ? Polyethelene sheeting under or the Redgard over the cementboard .Thanks for the input. Tim.

Waterproofing OVER the cement backer is the way to go. Once water gets behind the backer, what can you do about it? Best to keep moisture INSIDE the shower!
Make sure you follow the RedGard instructions carefully. Double or even triple coat the corners.

You can also use a product called Kerdi to waterproof the walls.
