Peel & Stick Wood Veneer...use contatct cement or not
I am getting ready to do my first project with veneer and purchased the peel and stick type and really do like the pattern of the wood grain.
This is for a 1950's dresser. Most all of the surfaces are veneer and in pretty good shape, however the top is something like a Formica. Because I am changing the color of stain to a darker finish I want to apply wood veneer on top of the Formica surface and stain it to match. (I'm working with Minwax oil based stain and polyurethane sealer) I have prepared the surface using 120 grit sandpaper as recommended but thought I would ask a couple of questions before I attempt to apply the veneer.
1) Should I use contact cement with the peel and stick veneer?
2) IF SO can someone recommend kind/brand of contact cement ?
3) I am also interested in any tips and tricks for working with wood veneer.
This isn't an heirloom piece so I'm willing to try recommendations. I just want best results possible. (I do have a few heirloom pieces that need similar repairs...I will learn on this piece first)
I would appreciate any input and information you might share. Thanks, Toni...
