the last time i did this i used a commerical heavy duty degreaser and scrubbed the walls and made sure i dried it well with towels right after to avoid runs and i did it about 3times then prime it with a zinesser but i've never heard of the orange cleaner for this and will have to try that. try both.
When I moved into my last house it had been heated with an oil fired parlor stove that had been blowing soot for many years. The walls were black.
I hit it with orange clean and it just ran off.
I'm a smoker and every time I clean the walls I'm just blown away by all the smoke that that just rolls off everything when I clean it with orange cleaner.
A stove top all covered grease after cooking fish will just wipe off with a paper towel .
