New kitchen worktops . . .

Hello Diy Forum
We are looking to replace the worktops on our inherited Ikea Adel units. We can't afford new appliances and our free standing washing machine juts out under worktop looking unsightly to me! As you know most worktops are 60mm deep, would it look strange if we fitted deeper tops, say 65mm so there is a more streamline look? We have wm then single sink cupboard then dishwasher. For deeper top I am thinking breakfast bar cut down to size??? Any comments or recommendations welcome and thank you!

It's not uncommon to bump out the base cabinets to the same depth as an appliance. Otherwise you'd have an odd looking overhang of the counter in front of them. Check with a local counter top supplier. It may be less expensive to have one made than you might think...
