new counter top over old in kitchen?

Is it possible to have countertops made that will just fit over my old formica top?

Possible yes
If you are willing to pay someone to do it
Usually much easier & less $$ to have premade replacements installed

new counter top over old in kitchen?

do you mean someone would come out and measure my current countertop and then make one to fit over it, then bring it back and fit it over the old top???? and if so, do you know of anyone in the Pittsburgh area that does this type of work??

I don't know anyone specific that will do that
HD & Lowes will come out & measure ($35 ?) & have counter tops made
Installation is extra
Measuring charge is applied to the order of counter top
And I'm not sure what they would charge based on going over the old counter top

Much better to have someone install the new one & take the old one out

Why would you want to install over the old? What are you trying to achieve?

old is formica and was looking for a not too costly upgrade... we're re-doing a lot this year (both baths, gameroom, front porch... so money is becoming tight... hate the mauve, old formica tops and was hoping I could change them w/o spending a lot of money....any other suggestions????

IIRC, Lowes countertop is about $10/foot for basic laminate countertop. I'd just rip out the old and then put in a new.

It would probably cost more to go over the old one
They would need to build a custom countertop
