I have this one wall in my kitchen area. currently it houses a big closet. I would like to do something that incorporates a closet for jackets/shoes, possible stacker washer/dryer, and some general storage or pantry. The height of the wall is throwing me off. I was thinking of some kind of cabinetry above closet(s) with one of those roll along ladders (like in old libraries). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
I wouldn't put a rolling ladder in the kitchen. Any other room in the house and I'd be all for it - but kitchens are hubs of activity and that is just a disaster waiting to happen.
I'd like to help you but you give very little info. Perhaps a few photos would help. Or at least a description of the adjacent areas..and even elaborate on your plan. Like where is the dinning area. What is on the opposite side of that wall? I mean by what you show, heck, someone might even suggest a racket ball wall.

Perhaps it would help if people could see what you've provided...IN SCALE.
As you can see, scale makes all the difference in perception of space.
Just an observation. I don't think a 14"x14" cabinet is huge. In fact, its hardly a useable space in some contexts, but untill we see some pics, its impossible to really percieve its usefullness. Let alone visualizing some ideas. Info is king.
:thumbup:There we go! Now what about the dinning room or is there a table in that area? And whats on the opposite side of that wall...and what is adjacent to the open area. Like I said, I'm trying to help you but you're making it difficult.
How bout just spending 20 minutes and tell us all you can or post some pics?
What about the floor finish? Wheres the ceiling offset from 11' to 8'..and what happens there...just a rise in ceiling height? Or is there a beam or what? Can you post any pictures?
