"Moving" holes in vanity top

Has anyone run across this before?

We have a 25 year old cultured marble vanity top that has holes for a 4" wide faucet. We want to use a new 8 inch wide spread faucet (three posts that do not have a separate deck plate). The old holes will not work and we are looking to drill new ones and then use a piece of tile or a steel plate on top to cover the old holes.

Are there any "generic" brushed nickel deck plates that you have a seen for sale? Are there any obvious "gotchas" that you can think of?

Terri

Terri,
Your profile does not say where you are located. Here in the LA area there are tons of high end plumbing supply places.
First take a pic to post here and also to show at your local retail sources.
I picture is the easiest way to get an answer.

They do make blank covers, usually for a kitchen faucet that doesn't have a separate pull out sprayer but the stainless sink has the hole for it.

The only gotcha I can think of is it's not going to look good (IMO).
