Laminate Countertop in Bathroom Least Expense?

Have a non-standard 40" vanity. Already did the floor tile, so more or less stuck. Cultured marble quote (very basic) for >$450. Tiny bathroom, 6.5x6.5 tile to the ceiling in shower, matching 13x13 on floor. Too much tile if we did the counter as well?
Is laminate a good choice for looks/durability or just budget-friendly?
33 yrs old house in neighborhood with few if any upgrades throughout the block, so not dumping $$ in with expectation of recouping at eventual sale.

I usually go for a one piece pre-made unit counter & sink from HD or Lowes - not laminate, not sure what it is. But not expensive
We bought a nice one on clearance that someone special ordered for less then $100 - orig $350

Look for stone remnants. I can get a 36" vanity for under $400. You don't always have the best choices available but never hurts to check it out.
Stone (or quartz) would definitely help for resale.
