Kitchen cabinets and filler strips

Getting ready for a new kitchen. The short version company one wants to use 2 24in corners,2 21 in wall, and 1 30 wall in center over microwave. The 2 21 cabinets will have a 3 in filler betwwen it and the corner cabinet.
Second company will use the same size cabinets except for the 2 21s.They will use 2 24s instead.I think the second co. is correct as the cabinets will be much bigger inside and the doors will look better. The cabinets are full overlay doors by Shiloh,co. #1 and Luxor co.#2.Are filler srtips necessary or just a way to sell you smaller cabinets for more money?

Kitchen cabinets and filler strips

Filler strips are just that.... FILLER STRIPS.... If the cabinets do not fill the opening then the fillers are used. If you have more room, than install the larger cabinets. Usually the cabinets are being centered over something and the installers are trying to creat a look that will be pleasing to the customer. If you don't want fillers order custom cabinets to size!!

Kitchen cabinets and filler strips

These are custom cabinets. The kitchen designer has said the reason for the filler strips is because we are using 4 corner cabinets and the room/walls are not plum/square.Also it prevents the cabinets doors from binding on the side cabinets.Note these cabinets are 24in corners so they will not jut out from the side cabinets. So there is aconcern about the doors hitting the other cabinet when fully open.Kinda of makes sense to me but needed another opinion. Also height wise the cabinets are 36 instead of 39 on an 8 ft tall wall to have room to adjust the crown moulding.Yes???

Countertop height is supposed to be 36". If the cabinets are "custom made", all the details about clearances should be worked out by whoever made the "custom cabinets". Fillers are used by production cabinet manufacturers, and are usually 3". The reason for that is they make cabinet widths usually starting at 9" wide and up, in 3" increments. This is to standardize their so-called "custom cabinets".
