kitchen cabinets

I have estimates on refacing my kitchen cabinets and they are wanting to charge me $2500 to change the hinges, refacing and put knobs on all the doors and drawers. Is this too much for what they are doing?

a friend of mine had that done years ago for about the same price. at that time i could have got him new cabinets for that price. they had an island with a butcher block top on it and doors on both sides. after the job was done their nice butcher block top was gone and they only had doors on one side of the island. i bought new rta cabinets last year for under 2200.00( the had a 40% off sale at the time), regular price was around 3300.00. are you getting new doors and drawer fronts for that price?

Obviously, you leave all kinds of details out. Size of areas, selection of hardware and its particalur finish, type of refacing material, etc, etc (all affects the total cost). Suffice it to say - It sounds about right to me....

Idunno. I just went to the dealership the other day and they wanted to charge me $32,000 for a car. Is that too much?

Without the size of the kitchen it is impossible to comment on price, however refacing kitchen cabinets estimates can be higher than actually replacing cabinets with new cabinets in many cases.

A friend just had their kitchen cabinets refaced. They bought the new doors & hardware - the contractor glued laminate to the face of the cabinets. They paid 7500. They look nice, but they could have got this done for half that? If so, I have a bridge in Brooklyn he may be interested in buying.

PS - we're talking townhouse cabinets here... the counter is maybe 17 linear feet... we're not talking a whole lot of cabinetry.

Wow Mikey - 7500 sounds real high to reface only 17 linear feet of cabinets. All that money goes to the over inflated labor costs.

It's unfortunate that many people overpay for this type of work, because they overestimate the cost of complete cabinet replacement. In a 17 linear foot kitchen for 7500, your friend could have had new high quality cabinetry, countertops, and installation.
