What's your budget for them?

Budget is approximately $5000.00 for cabinets only. Kitchen is rather small.

Any cabinets recommended by any of our trusted members that have more than 100 posts. Avoid cabinets recommended by any "newbies" like the plague.

I wouldn't buy cabinets online. Find a distributor in your area, or use a local cabinet shop. Doing that would give you immediate access to resolve any problems, and give you the opportunity to see exactly what you order.

Mike is right...RTA's are available locally. Check first with your local box stores, as they may have them both RTA's and assembled. They will likely be the most competitive in pricing. There are different brands of different quality. If you aren't familiar with cabinetry as for construction methods, materials, accessories and finishes, it would pay for you to do some research first.

Have you ever done a project with RTA cabinets? It can be a PITA...lotsa parts and pieces. Have you ever built cabinets? If you are so inclined, have the space, tooling, smarts and the time, you may save yourself some money if you don't figure what your labor is worth.

after searching awhile, online and local.. i ended up going with a local dealer, simply because something will come in wrong no matter what, and it is important to have a place you can deal with easily.

Just take online pricing to a local store... you will be surprised how competitive they will be, and if they arnt which some most certainly are not, move on to the next one.. i started with quotes around 12k, and ended up at 5k for cabinets.. fabuwood wellington series.

I purchased the pre-fabs from Lowes (the old natural Maple style). Granted, these are really low-end but we are pretty handy and will be installing some crown. Hubby will also be making custom book shelves and a wine rack that will fill in the space that is normally a fur-down (I think that is the correct term).

The link to my project with pics is in my signature if you want to check it out.

Another option that we considered (if we hadn't liked the Lowes), was to go to a local cabinet overstock store and piecemeal a set together. Also, you can sometimes find a full kitchen set on Craig's List. I have found several in my area that were viable options. We will be going this route to find matching full height pantries as the natural maple was discontinued over a year ago.

The one thing I recommend is that you measure several times (factoring in the spacers and baseboards). If you buy big-box or online, buy extra trim, kick plates, and any extras that you might need. I bought a lot of extra trim and kick plates and that has been a life saver for fitting a non-custom kitchen.

Good luck and post pictures!
