Installing under cabinet lighting trim?

I'm installing some Kichler under cabinet linear lighting in my kitchen. Unfortunately, the height of the linear lights makes it necessary for me to install a piece of trim under the entire 18' run of Merillat cabinets. Merillat has something they make specifically for this called UCM or Under Cabinet Molding.

My problem is I'm not sure exactly how I should install it.

I'm thinking about using 1 1/4" cabinet screws from underneath to attach the trim to the front of the cabinet frames which are 3/4" thick and 1 1/2" tall. The problem is the sides, of which there are four. As you can see from the photos below, the sides are only 1/2" plywood. Plus, as you can see from the first photo showing the microwave oven, I may need to remove the trim to be able to remove the microwave if repair or replacement is needed in the future, so I think gluing is out of the question. What do you suggest?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Installing under cabinet lighting trim?

That doesn't look like under cabinet light trim to me. Way too big, with the wrong profile. The item I've used is like solid crown with a lip that gets screwed to the cabinet bottom. It would be inset from the edge a bit and a filler strip installed around the perimeter to screw it to.

I hear ya. I didn't think this was right either, but I confirmed it with Merillat. Here's an excerpt from their 2009 product specs, which describes the molding and its use.

Yikes----I've never seen light valance that large---often it's 3/4 wide by 1 1/4 or so simple bullnose Some are a bit fancier --

see if they have a trim profile sheet--you might find one of their stock profiles will work.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I can return the trim at this point but I'll see what else they have.

bring it forward so the flat part is under the bottom of the cabinet frame and screw it to the cabinet from the bottom side.. miter the corners and use miterbond adhesive to glue the corners together.. cut it to fit and glue it together before you screw it to the cabinet... this adhesive is very strong and it will hold the small 12 returns without using screws on the ends.. you can also add a wood strip under the cabinet on the ends if you need more than the 1/2 thickness to to help hold the side returns...
