Installing towel hanger shelf through bathroom tile and drywall

Hello All,

I need to install a "towel hanger shelf" for the bathroom. I will need to use some kind of anchor going through tile and then the backing drywall. Can someone recommend type of anchor to use other than a toggle bolt or toggler snaptoggle. I know these would work great, but I`m very concerned about drilling such a large hole through tile. I`ve never drilled through tile before. I`m concerned about cracking the tile. Tips on drilling through tile would also be much appreciated. Thank you very much. Cheers!

Use a 1/4 inch diamond bit--or if it is a soft tile a Bosch carbide bit--then plastic anchors or cedar splits driven into the hole--

a scrap of wood with a 1/4 hole will help keep the bit from skating all over the place when you start the hole-

A little tip on locating your holes--mark the locations on a level first--then transfer the marks to the wall.

Are you suggesting the anchor will grap in both tile and drywall or only through the drywall?

It will grab the tile and the backer board--I usually drill my hole and then whittle a plug out of a cedar shim--then tap that into the hole--Drive screw into wood --

I've seen the plastic ones pop the tile--to hard--no room for expansion.
