Installing OTS Microwave

Hey so I'm installing an over-the-stove microwave and I have backsplash that prevents the microwave backing frame from sitting flush on the wall. My question is...

1. Should I remove all of the backsplash that would sit behind the microwave?
2. Should I cut 2 six inch pieces from the existing backsplash and put them in both corners so that the backing frame sits flush?
3. Just place a bolt behind the backing frame so that it will act as the filler between the wall and frame?

The image below illustrates #1 and #2. The yellow box is #1, the red boxes are #2.

Installing OTS Microwave

Anything the same thickness as the back splash that can be drilled will work fine, plywood, piece of trim, whatever.
I would not cut out the back splash that's already installed.

Installing OTS Microwave

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing as well since I saw some plywood at home depot.
