How to remove old grout.

Hello,

What is the best way to remove old grout? Is there any grout softener available on the market?

Thanks.

A good old fashioned grout saw is one way to remove it. Available at tile stores, or event the big box stores.
There are also power tools that can be used. Dremel makes a grout attachment. Just be careful if you go this route, it's easy to damage the tiles.
I don't know of any softener to help remove it, but there are grout stains if your only issue is the color.
It's a very tedious and time consuming job. Why do you want to remove it?

I use one of these with a diamand blade. It will make the job super easy to do.

There's lots of companys that sell this style tool. Northern Tools has a cheaper version.
This one tool has hundreds of uses.

How to remove old grout.

How wide is the grout line? I use a hand cutter for small jobs (thank you Blondsense) and a multi-tool with diamond or carbide for medium sized jobs (Thank you Joe)

For a real big job--there are specialty tools available---I don't do that kind of work,so I don't own them.

Sadly---grout failure is almost always a symptom of a tile job coming loose---Tap on those tiles--If they sound hollow--you will be better off removing the tiles and starting over--Mike---
