How do you prepare backerboard for fiberglass shower pan ?

My shower pan is 36in by 36in. the studs barely allow the pan to fit.
the durock is 1/2 inch like existing walls outside the shower. If I fur it out behind the rockboard it wont match up with the rest of the walls in the room. What is the best way to seal the corners of the pan where you would install the door?

We just finished this same thing in our bathroom. Do you have a picture of your pan? Ours has a lip where the durock over laps the lip. I had to rip a strip the thickness of the lip to fur the durock out where it would make a smooth transition from the studs to the lip. If the tile stands proud you will have to deal with that or notch your studs where the pan will recess the thickness of the pan, but that may not work right either. Without being there it is hard to say.

Our tile with the durock stands out from the rest of the walls and most showers will. You will need a bull nose to dress that edge off.

Our tile runs out about two or three inches past the front edge of the pan and our shower door will mount onto the tile, not the wall outside the shower. I am sure there are other ways to do that but this is what we chose to do,

Bring the Durrock down to the top of the flange--no need to cover it---fill the gap with thinset as you tile---or ,better yet, fill with thinset---then waterproof the entire thing with Red Guard or Hydro ban---

Mike how far past the top of the lip should the tile extend below? I think I may have created a lot more work than was necessary with mine.

MY pan stated leave a 1/2 inch gap to prevent water wicking kind of unclear wheather that was above the lip. that would leave a huge hole to
fill with nothing to back it to. Going to place some wood between studs to fill the gap behind pan lip so I can thinset fill it in. Thanks, Oh and I am also going to bring the backer all the way down to the top of the lip.
