How to clean a PVC waste pipe from rubber washer remains?

Hello,

I am remodeling my bath. I took apart my old shower cabin. First I removed all tiles and walls and then I removed the old fiberglass shower pan. A rubber washer inside of the drain completely stuck to the PVC waste pipe. I was able to cut and pull it, but now the waste pipe is covered by some rubber residue. Due to space limitations I cannot cut and replace PVC waste pipe and would like to clean the waste pipe from rubber washer remains.
Is there any easy way to clean a PVC pipe from rubber washer remains?

Thanks a lot.

Have you tried pvc primer/cleaner--the purple stuff?---That and a knife blade should clean that up for you.

I can't use a knife because I am going to install a new shower pan and new rubber washer. I don't want to scratch the waste pipe because it may cause some water leaking problems.
But I do have the pvc primer/cleaner. I'll try. I am also thinking about trying acetone.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

You can scrape off the high spots with a putty knife and clean off the residue by lightly sanding the pipe. As long as you don't put a vertical gouge in the pipe, you'll be fine.
