Help! Our contractor left us with a mess.

Hi. My hubby and I just paid to have our kitchen partially remodeled. I paid the contractor cash, upfront...I know, a huge mistake. He only finished about 80% of the job, and we haven't heard from him again.

Now, we have only found a few people willing to come in behind him and fix/finish his work. So now we are getting estimates.

The original contractor hung our cabinets uneven (about 1/4 inch difference at the bottom), the man who came in yesterday to give us an estimate said he wanted to sand that 1/4" off. I've never heard of this. Can you sand off the front/bottom of a prefab. cabinet to make it look even? My thought is the cabinet needs to be taken down and moved up slightly, but I don't really know anything about construction.

My other question is this: We had one of the entrances to our kitchen closed in (creating a wall), but the contractor didn't remove the corner beads before he put up the sheetrock/drywall mud...now it looks uneven. Are the corner beads supposed to be removed?

Thanks for any input!

The cabinet should be reset. I never heard of them being sanded. It would look very uneven.

The corner bead should of been removed.

The cabinet should not be sanded, like you said, it needs to be moved up so the bottoms will be flush. Also the corner beads should have been removed and sanded smooth then taped and mud.

find another contractor. the corner beads should have been removed.

Trust your instincts sounds like you already know more than the last guy.
