granite shelf

I am redoing a granite shelf with 3 bordering walls. The piece is 20'' deep and 50'' wide. If I put up a backer board and install 3 12''x12'' braces along the back and two on each side further out to support the front edge, will this be enough. The front center of the piece of granite will have no support. Is this a big deal?

thanks
chad
