Granite countertop

We might want to upgrade and get granite countertops. Is it generally better to rip out the old countertops or just have the new granite installed over the existing ones?

This is what I was thinking.

Try searching that trade name using the search function on this site. There are lots of opinions you can read through.

For a recent remodel I checked granite transformations against having pre-fabricated granite installed. The pre-fabricated granite won on price, cosmetics, and value.

What is the best way to try and figure out cost?

Make a drawing complete with sizes to a granite fabricator--also have a couple of photos of the area.

That's the only accurate way I know of---the cost of the slab plus the cutting--piecing--edging backsplash and cutouts and installation = the total
