I'll be installing a folding shower seat in my new tile shower.
It looks like this: http://www.dreamlineshowers.com/Fold...ower-Seat.html
The walls are still open studs. I don't have the instuctions yet, but from the picture, I don't think the mounting flanges are 16" apart. How would you frame behind the wall? Additional studs? 2x12 between the studs? If the 2x12, how would you attach it to the studs? nails, screws, lags?
You should be able to down load an instrutions manual on that seat as to location and distace apart the flanges are.
Once you do just frame the wall and do a lay out on the studs. Mark it out and cut out an area on the studs and cut out the studs to 1-1/2" depth. Install 2, pieces of 2 X 6 not a 2 X 12. The reason it's really hard to find a 2 X 12 that's not split down the middle. Install it with 2-1/2 ceramic coated deck screws. Now it will be flush with the studs.
Thanks, Joe. I like that idea. Since this is an addition, the wall we're talking about was an exterior wall, supporting some (hip) roof load. Are you still OK with cutting 1.5" out of 2 studs? I guess if the cross piece is a good fit, I haven't compromised the stud much. ???
