first floor bath vent fan

My house is located on Long Island NY, built 1950. I am replacing the vent ceiling vent fan in our first floor Bathroom.Existing joist is 1-1/2"x 7" exact. Seems to be typical for this era. Unit from NuTone designed for 2"x8" nominal joist. Sheetrock is 3/8".
Have not purchased anything yet but thought this model, QTN 80E would work well.

I guess there would be some of the fan housing exposed. Not sure if cover will fit flush.

Any advise is appreciated.

3/8 on a ceiling
If you set the bottom of the box even with the sheetrock it will still work.

Thanks joecaption.
I have edited my post to include details. Yes 3/8" is all through this house. I'm thinking it would be wise to go over it with 3/8 or 1/2". I think that would give a proper fit to the fan.

Agreed, cannot texture water based with 3/8", see footnote "d"; http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/ic...002_par010.htm
